Wildland Plants (REM 252)

Information  on this site supports REM 252 Wildland Field Plant Identification at the University of Idaho.  This 2-credit course is offered by the Rangeland Ecology and Management program in the College of Natural Resources.

This class is a classroom-based experience that will help you learn important rangeland plants from across western North America. There will also be a one-day field trip at the end of the semester. This will allow you to explore what you have learned in the “real world.”

*~*~*~* Learning Outcomes ~*~*~*~*~

Student who complete this class will be able to:

1. Recognize definitive plant characteristics and use appropriate terms to describe the physical characteristics of plants.
Assessment: This skill will be tested by describing plant to fellow class members and successfully completing tests 1 & 2.

2. Describe rangeland plants in terms of longevity, origin, and invasive character.
Assessment: Assign and describe these characteristics of plants on tests.

3. Identify 74 major North American rangeland plants by common and scientific name and family/tribe in which they are classified.
Assessment: Identify and name plant specimens in tests in the lab (on herbarium mounts) and in field settings (live plants).
